What is book of Enoch?

The Book of Enoch is an ancient Hebrew religious text that is not part of the biblical canon. It is a pseudepigraphal work, which means that it is falsely attributed to a famous author. In this case, the book is attributed to Enoch, who was the grandfather of Noah in the Bible.

The Book of Enoch was written in the 3rd century BC, centuries after the events it describes. It contains a variety of materials, including apocalyptic visions, eschatological prophecies, and wisdom literature. The book is divided into five parts:

  • 1 Enoch 1-36: This section describes Enoch's heavenly journey, where he learns about the secrets of the universe.

  • 1 Enoch 37-71: This section contains a series of visions about the future, including the coming judgment of the wicked and the salvation of the righteous.

  • 1 Enoch 72-82: This section contains a collection of astronomical and meteorological treatises.

  • 1 Enoch 83-90: This section contains a prophecy about the coming of the Messiah.

  • 1 Enoch 91-108: This section contains a collection of moral and ethical teachings.

The Book of Enoch was not included in the biblical canon for a number of reasons. First, it was not written by a prophet. Second, it contains some questionable content, such as the claim that angels slept with human women and gave birth to giants. Third, it was not widely accepted by early Christians.

Scholars have studied the Book of Enoch for centuries, and it has been the subject of much debate. Some scholars believe the book is a valuable source of information about early Jewish thought, while others believe it is a work of fiction.

Why was book of Enoch removed from the Bible?

There are many reasons why the Book of Enoch was not included in the biblical canon. The Book of Enoch was not included in the biblical canon because a prophet did not write it, contains questionable content, and was not widely accepted by early Christians.

It is important to note that the decision of which books to include in the biblical canon was made by the early Christian church, and there is no single reason why the Book of Enoch was not included. However, the reasons listed above are some of the most common reasons given.

The Book of Enoch is still an important text for many people and still studied by scholars today. However, most Christians do not consider it part of the biblical canon.

Is it a sin to read the book of Enoch?

Whether or not it is a sin to read the Book of Enoch is a matter of opinion. There is no clear consensus on this issue among Christians. Some Christians believe reading the Book of Enoch is a sin because it is not part of the biblical canon. Others believe it is not a sin to read the Book of Enoch, but it should be read with caution because it contains some questionable content.

The Bible does not explicitly forbid the reading of the Book of Enoch. However, it warns against false teachers and doctrine (Matthew 7:15-20; 2 Peter 2:1-22). Some Christians believe that the Book of Enoch contains false doctrine, and that it is therefore dangerous to read.

Ultimately, whether or not to read the Book of Enoch is up to each individual. If you are a Christian, you should weigh the arguments for and against reading the book and make a decision that aligns with your conscience.

  • Early Christians did not widely accept it. The earliest Christian writings do not mention the Book of Enoch, and it was not included in the canon of the Eastern Orthodox Church until the 19th century.

  • It is not consistent with other parts of the Bible. For example, it teaches that there are two worlds, one for the righteous and one for the wicked, when the Bible teaches that there will be a final judgment after death.

Hello, you mentioned in the article that the Bible does not teach about angels having children with women and giving birth to giants, however it is mentioned in Genesis 6:1-4. Although not much information is given on them, it is worthy to not that the Bible does in fact mention that angel’s procreated with human women and created hybrid children which were known as nephilim.

Well I guess I want to just say this on it. That I never even heard of The Book of Enoch until 10 years ago. I am 50 now just this past July 9th. I’ve never read any religious texts from front to back I have read some of the Bible and I have read some of the Quran I was just curious why I never heard of Enoch and very curious as to why. I guess what I’m saying in the end is I’m human and flawed and I just was looking for answers.

I thank you for the information. It is such a debate among my fellow christian family. I was introduced to this book before the Bible itself. As I speak to others about it they tell me to stop going into those books because its too many questions and right or wrong answers on this topic. I hope one day the lord himself can reveal if it is indeed truthful or not. it’s just a bit hard to unlearn because Well, it was the first book I was introduced too.

Dear Edgar, a sincere thank you for your comments. We do our best to give helpful information and encourage people to read and study their Bible. Unfortunately, we are not able to study and read every text related to each topic. If you are a member of a church, perhaps you could ask your pastor or a church leader what their recommendations are for learning or not learning more about the Book of Enoch. May God bless you and give you wisdom and discernment.
